The Japanese limited edition comes with 2 posters and a Silent Hill 3 program book with a big “DRAWING BLOCK” on the cover just like the one Cheryl was holding on the car in the first Silent Hill.

US PlayStation 2 version (SLUS 20622) was released on August 5, 2003, a PC version (23443) was released on November 21, 2003, a soundtracks CD was bundled with both versions.

PAL PlayStation 2 version (SLES 51434) was released on May 23, 2003 (the world’s first released version). A PC version was released on October 21, 2003.

An Asian PC version was released on October 31, 2003, with a bundled soundtracks CD.

There are “Display Mode” (Normal/Sharp) and “Noise Effect” (On/Off) selections in the options, here are the screens representing their respective values

Display Mode - Normal, Noise - On (Default)

Display Mode - Sharp, Noise On (my preferred settings)

Display Mode - Sharp, Noise Off

Display Mode - Normal, Noise Off (the worst one)

On the PC version, in addition to the usual “Resolution” (output) setting, there is a “Rendering Resolution”, it is a little confusing to many gamers but it is indeed not a complex thing. While the usual “Resolution” determines the resolution that you see on screen, the “Rendering Resolution” option determines the rendering back buffer resolution. The card draws the picture on another bigger/smaller (depends on your settings) virtual screen (rendering back buffer) and then scale it to fit the selected (output) Resolution.

You can select from 256×256 to 4096×4096 (depends on your card, cards with 256MB RAM can only reach 4096×2048), slower PC needs to select a lower one, but on a now standard 1024×768 (and more) output, anything lower than 1024×512 will look rather bad. I had taken some screenshots demonstrating the output and the option, you can click here to check them out. You’ll need to find the best looking one for your system that plays smoothly.

Save Symbol

From the hand written notes in one of the rooms in the Chapel.
(From Japanese version, that’s why they are US English)
1. It represents the deity known as “The Halo of the Sun”. In heraldry, symbolizes a religious group.
2. The two outer circles are charity and resurrection; the three inner circles are present, past, and future.
3. Usually drawn in red. Occasionally drawn in black or other colors, but blue reverses the meaning into a curse on God and is therefore forbidden.
