The Game

The game was released in Japan on July 28, 2005. Two versions are available, the standard one (SLPM 66071) and the premium box (SLPM 66070). A trial version (SLPM 60264) was also available, it was from a campaign (during April to May in 2005) of the official Shadow Hearts Fan Club, which distributes 10000 copies to members who requested for it.

The premium box version comes with a Special Sound CD, a Special Bonus DVD, Valentine’s triple mobile strap, Shania’s Earring key holder, N.Y. Heaven B5 notebook and a Johnny Ghost T-Shirt, if you pre-ordered it, you will receive a Shadow Hearts Settings Information book as a bonus.

The Special Bonus DVD contains Promotion Video, Interviews of the Voice Actors, Ending theme with interview and Commercials for Theatres.

A starter pack (ARZE 66071) was released in Japan on January 19, 2006. It is just a bundle offer with an illustrated paper box containing the same standard version of the game and 2 new guidebooks - SH FTNW Special Guidebook and SH II DC Append Guidebook.

Midway decided not to adopt the game because of the underwhelming sales of the first Shadow Hearts and Shadow Hearts Covenant. XSEED Games picked up and localize it, the US version (SLUS 21326) was released on March 7, 2006.

The game starts in 1929, in New York of America. The story begins with our hero Johnny Garland (Johnny), a private investigator, was appointed to handle a case of finding the suspect of a series of murder cases. The story of the game is not a continuation of the previous ones in the series, except the re-use of a couple of characters.

There is a Filter selection (On/Off) in the options, it defaults to On, some people might not like the little blurred look, turning it off will make the screen sharper.
