The Game
2 editions were released in Japan on February 19, 2004, the DX pack (SLPS-25317~8) and the standard edition (SLPS-25334~5), it was developed by Nautilus, and published by ARUZE CORP.. The DX pack contains a special bonus DVD, 2 coasters, a mobile phone strap and a smaller version of Anne’s Cross.
The special bonus DVD contains some Promotion Video, Interviews of the Voice Actors, Ending theme with Interview and Commercials on TV.
A Director’s Cut version (SLPS-73214~5) was released as Playstation 2 the Best edition on March 10, 2005, which contains some additional areas, scenes, monsters and one of the very best cut scene converted to CG FMV.
Localized version for US and PAL version were done by Midway, US version (SLUS 21041/21044) was released on September 27, 2004, and the PAL version (SLES 82030 2 discs) was released on March 11, 2005. The English versions are basically the Director’s Cut version minus a couple of things, 1. Beautiful Fool dress of Cornelia, 2. Sea of Woods area, 3. Nahashu Temple, 4. All the extra scenes, 5. All the new items and monsters.
The story continue with the bad ending of Shadow Hearts, and starts in Domremy (a village in France) in 1915. A German Land unit is attacking Domremy, and a demon protects the village from the army.
The game can be easily missed if you haven’t played the first, like me, I had missed the first Shadow Hearts the time it was released. I played Shadow Hearts II before the first Shadow Hearts. If you are interested in Shadow Hearts II and haven’t played the first, you would want to play it or just read the story to know about the characters, background and history of it if you are not going to play it. Or you will feel like you are missing something when you are playing Shadow Hearts II, the current PS2 the best version of Shadow Hearts is very cheap and it comes with a bonus DVD that contains 3 TV CM and 2 long trailers of Shadow Hearts II, they are not available on the Internet and if you like me, who likes watching TV CM and trailers, the DVD is a treasure.
If you decided not to do anything about the first Shadow Hearts, you will still enjoy the game very much as the game is a really really quality one in the realm of RPG. But you will not understand the background of the characters although there are some kind of overviews in the conversations.
SH II is a vast upgrade in terms of graphics and battle systems relative to the original SH.

Save data corruption prevention
There is a known save data corruption problem (check this link - official Japanese site)
It may happen at the time when you are prompted to save when you have finished the parts on disc 1, at the memory slot selection screen, if you move/select too fast, the save data might be corrupted. The issue is a timing problem.
To avoid the problem, please wait a few seconds (I wait 5 seconds on every slot selection screens after knowing about the problem), then select the memory slot. I hadn’t have any problem with this method on my more than 4 complete play throughs of Shadow Hearts II.
No sound while FMV (CG cut-scenes) is playing
Check your Sound option
If “Dolby Digital 5.1″ is selected in “Sound”, you must use the optical output and connects it to a surround amplifier to have sound. The analog output will be muted during the playback of FMV (CG cut-scenes). Change to “Stereo” will solve your problem if you do not want to do anything.
